Celebrated Ghanaian highlife artiste George Kwabena Adu, popularly known as Kwabena Kwabena, has declared his intention to contest for the position of Student Representative Council (SRC) President at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The multi-award-winning musician is currently a student at the university, pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

This bold step by Kwabena Kwabena reflects a growing wave of interest among Ghanaian creatives who are increasingly stepping into leadership roles within academic institutions. His manager, Nana Poku Ashis, confirmed the news, emphasizing the artist’s passion for youth empowerment and community development.

Known for timeless hits like “Aso,” Kwabena Kwabena is not just making music but also making moves that underscore his commitment to societal progress. Before enrolling at UPSA, he completed his secondary education at St. Peter’s Secondary School and later earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) from Accra Polytechnic. His campaign for SRC President marks a new and exciting chapter in his life, one that merges creativity, experience, and leadership.

By running for SRC President, Kwabena Kwabena follows the trail blazed by fellow musicians such as Samini, who made headlines when he served as SRC President at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Guru, the current SRC President at the University of Ghana, and Dr Cryme, who was recently elected to the same role at Methodist University.

This trend of entertainers entering student politics is quickly gaining traction and is being seen as a positive blend of influence and inspiration. It signifies a powerful shift—where entertainers are not just icons on stage, but agents of change on campuses. Their involvement introduces a fresh dynamic to student leadership, making governance more relatable and aspirational for the youth.

Kwabena Kwabena’s candidacy is expected to energize the student community at UPSA and beyond. As the election season heats up, all eyes will be on how the music icon blends his artistic charisma with the practicalities of student leadership.

One thing is certain: the harmony between entertainment and education is producing a new chorus of multi-talented, visionary youth leaders.
